I have completed week seven of the Philips ReAura trial and I am so excited by the results!

My skin looks clear, more even toned, with softer lines on my forehead and two lines gone from my cheek and chin.  Several people have commented on how good my skin looks so what more can you ask for?  My hands are also looking really good and they haven’t had quite as many treatments.

It’s hard to show photographs of what actually happens to your skin when you use the ReAura, but something interesting happened when I was taking photographs for the blog.  I rubbed a blob of the Laser Aftercare Complex onto my hand and photographed it.  You can see the tiny red marks made by the laser.  You can’t actually see this with the naked eye but it shows up when you photograph it.  I imagine this is how my face looks after the treatment.  There’s never anyone up when I use the laser and it’s impossible to get a good enough photograph of yourself.  When I finish the treatment I will get photographs taken to see if I can show the improvement.

The photograph was taken the day after treatment.

When I have mentioned to friends that I am using the ReAura they always have a list of questions.   I have answered them here so you get to know what it’s like using the ReAura.

Does the ReAura hurt?

It doesn’t hurt me at all, although I know of another person who is using a ReAura and she finds it uncomfortable, and quite painful.  You feel a slight prickle when you are using the ReAura and a slight tingle when you have finished.  I haven’t experienced any burning sensation but I don’t have sensitive skin.  In my experience the longer I have used the ReAura the more comfortable it has become and the sensation after treatment has lasted for less time.

Is the ReAura easy to use?

Yes simplicity itself, you switch on the unit and glide it effortlessly over your skin.  I move the ReAura horizontally and then vertically in even strokes so you cover the entire area you are working on.  It’s really comfortable to hold and to get the angle right.  I find it really relaxing as I use it before going to bed.

Can you hurt yourself with the ReAura?

Only if you are really foolish, the same as you could iron over your hand or stick your head in the oven.  If you follow the instructions and only go over each area of your skin for the indicated amount of time you will not hurt yourself.  The ReAura can be disarmed by removing the end cover so children can’t use it by mistake.

How quickly do you see results?

I saw results after four weeks but I have seen much better results after 7 weeks.  The changes in your skin are gradual; don’t expect to see a difference overnight, it takes time for your skin to react to the laser treatment.  Remember that you are creating a slight trauma in the skin which it then has to repair, you can’t see this happening.

Will the ReAura take away wrinkles?

I didn’t have deep wrinkles to start off with, so it’s hard for me to answer this question.  I did have fine lines.  The very fine ones on my forehead have almost gone.  The slightly deeper one has softened and doesn’t appear so deep but hasn’t gone completely.  The one on my cheek and under my chin has actually gone.  The sides of my eyes are completely smooth without lines.   It took 7 weeks for the one under my chin to go, it what was starting to look noticeable to me (not sure anyone else could see it looking straight at my face) has remarkably disappeared.

Does the ReAura change how your skin looks?

Yes it does, the surface of my skin is much smoother which makes my makeup look better.  The pores around my nose are less noticeable and the broken veins at the side of my nose don’t look as obvious.  My skin also looks firmer and plumper than it did before I started the ReAura treatment.

Does your skin feel different after using the ReAura?

When I first started the treatment my skin felt drier and slightly rough, this only happened for the first few weeks, now my skin feels completely normal.  It’s soft and very smooth.  I haven’t felt any tightness in my skin, but it does feel firmer.

Do you have to use the Philips products with the ReAura?

You do need to use the gel to glide the ReAura over your skin.  I would highly recommend that you use the Philips Laser Aftercare Complex after treatment your skin with the ReAura.  I have tried using other creams and they just didn’t work as well.  The redness lasted longer and so did the slight tingle.  I can’t see any reason not to use this cream straight after the treatment; I then use my usual routine the following day.

How easy is it to stick to the programme?

You do have to dedicate time to using the ReAura.  I haven’t always been on target with the gap between treatments.  It’s recommended that you leave 48 hours between treatments.  I have often left quite a few days between my treatments and still have had excellent results.  I might have had even better results if I hadn’t left so much time between each session.  I have used the ReAura roughly twice a week since starting the programme.  I missed a week in the middle, I don’t know if this has made a difference to the result.  You must be prepared to put in the effort of sitting for at least half an hour twice a week to get good results, and longer if you are doing your hands or chest as well.  This is not a quick fix you have to be patient to see results.

Do you need to take any special precautions when you use the ReAura?

You do need to use a good sun care product daily with an SPF of at least 30+.  This will prevent any more sun damage especially as your skin will be more susceptible to sunlight.  I use La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Factor 50+ under makeup or the tinted version on its own.  If my skin looks too shiny I lightly press Kleenex shine absorbing sheets over my face.  The sheets are powder free and don’t disturb makeup.

How does the ReAura compare to salon laser treatment?

I have never had a salon laser treatment, so I can’t compare it.  I haven’t had any down time with using the ReAura, the slight redness that I have had the day after treatment has easily been covered by Ginvera Nude Green Tea BB Cream.  As far as I know you have more down time with salon treatments.  You also have the convenience of a home treatment; you can carry this out when you want to, without leaving the house.  I also like the fact that you can treat your hands and chest as well.

Do you think the ReAura is good value for money?

The ReAura is expensive, it’s a large outlay, but once you have bought it, other than replacing the gel and cream you don’t have anything else to pay for.  You can treat several areas of your body with the same unit; this would work out very expensive if you had a salon treatment for each one.  If you are serious about rejuvenating your skin and keeping it well maintained then yes I think the ReAura is good value for money, especially if you use it for a number of years.

Can I just use the ReAura to improve my skin or do I have to do anything else?

In my opinion you need to incorporate the ReAura into a healthy and sensible lifestyle.  I think the ReAura has worked so well for me because I have used it enhance the other things I do to improve my skin.  I use very good supplements, including Collagen Shots a collagen replacement drink; I take fish oils and vitamins.  I also have a very good skincare regime and never, ever go to bed in my makeup – ever!  I use good quality targeted skincare products.  I have never smoked and don’t sun bathe, eat reasonably healthy food and try to exercise whenever I can.  All these things help towards a youthful complexion.

Do you have to plug in the ReAura?

The ReAura is rechargeable, so cordless.  I recharge the unit after each use because it switches off when fully charged and then I know it won’t run out during a treatment.  I have been doing my face, neck and hands at each session and it has never run down.

Is the ReAura noisy?

The ReAura makes a quiet beeping noise as you move it over your skin; this indicates that you are in contact and that the laser is targeting your skin.  When the unit gets warm the fan comes on, you can’t hear the beeping when this happens but you can see the green light so you know you are in contact.  The fan came on more when the weather was warmer.
