If you want to know how well you‘re ageing, just smile.

Next time you take a look at your reflection in the mirror your smile will give you a more accurate measure of how your face is ageing.  The scientists at Clinique call this the “Smile Test”, where the laughter lines around your eyes and mouth are measured.

According to Tom Mammone, Clinique’s Executive Director of Skin Physiology and Pharmacology, “The Smile Test is the new benchmark for clinical trials in skincare”.  He went on to say “It’s a difficult assessment to get right, as no two smiles are the same, but we’re focusing on get better at it as it’s a far more accurate measurement of how you’re ageing.”

The new test has been used in the development of Clinique’s latest product an addition to the Repairwear Laser Focus range, which is due to be launched in December.

The lines we see when smiling, or when our faces are moving the scientists are calling ‘dynamic’ lines.  The wrinkles we see only when our faces are moving will in time develop into ‘static’ ageing lines and will be visible on our faces at all times.

It appears that the old expression of cracking your face might be quite accurate if you want to assess your lines and wrinkles.
