Fighting Fifty Beauty Product Review June 2018

Featuring Jurlique, Josh Wood Colour, Abnomaly, Vichy, Trinny London, Emma Hardie, Touch in Sol and Lixirskin

Our Beauty Expert, Nikki Taylor, is back with me this month to talk about the products we’ve tried and tested.  We cover makeup and skincare, and of course, it wouldn’t be a Fighting Fifty video if we didn’t mention a sun protection product.  Especially at this time of year!

The products featured in the video are:

Jurlique Daily Exfoliating Cream

Both Nikki and I have been fans of Jurlique for years.  I remember buying my first stash many years ago in Perth, Western Australia.  The Rosewater Balancing Mist is always in my skincare routine.  Nikki brought back memories with the Jurlique Daily Exfoliating Cream, it’s a non-grainy exfoliator which contains almond, sesame seed oil and oat bran.  The smell alone took me back.  The texture is like a paste and it gently draws out impurities, leaving skin hydrated and smooth.  It can be used daily if required and is perfect for sensitive skin.

Josh Wood Colour Root Concealers

Grey roots drive me mad, but not enough to give in and go grey – just yet!  One week after visiting my colourist, there they are twinkling along my parting again.  So, I was delighted when Josh Wood asked if I would like to try the new Root Concealers.  Having tried both the Blending Brush and the Root Smudger, it’s the Blending Brush that I’ll be purchasing.  The product gives good coverage and can be used on wet or dry hair.  I prefer using it on wet hair.  The Blending Brush, although slightly more expensive has lasted well and is good value for money.  Let’s hope that Josh Wood will extend the range of colours soon.

Josh Wood Colour Blending Brush 20ml £15.00 available from Josh Wood Colour and Boots

Abnomaly Petrowhat?

There’s always excitement when Deciem launch a new range or product, and Abnomaly is no exception.  As always, Deciem have created a completely different approach to a multi-use lip and skin ointment.  This formulation does not contain any petroleum, it’s alcohol free, silicone free, nut free and suitable for vegan’s. The lightweight formulation starts to hydrate on contact and is available in 4 fruity flavours.

Abnomaly Petrowhat? 15ml £7.00 available from Deciem

Vichy Solar Protective Waters

If you don’t like a heavy sunscreen, then you are going to love the new Vichy Solar Protective Waters.  The lightweight mist formulation is composed of two different phases, an Oil Phase, and a Water Phase, which blend when you gently shake together. Choose between the Hydrating Solar Protective Water SPF30: with Hyaluronic Acid, and the Enhanced Tan Solar Protective Water SPF30: with Beta Carotene.  Both products have high spectrum filters to protect against UVA and UVB rays and contain Vichy’s Thermal Mineralising Water.

Vichy Solar Protective Waters £19.00 (Currently £14.25) available from Feelunique

Trinny London Flush Blush

Trinny has been taking London by storm with her pop-up store in the West End.  Nikki went along and bought some of the stackable cosmetics.  Her favourite is the Flush Blush in shade Katrin.  The cream blush makes you look like you’ve just got back from a brisk walk.  It’s easy to blend, has a satin finish, and comes in four colours.

Trinny London Flush Blush 4g £20.00 available from Trinny London

Emma Hardie Moringa Renewal Treatment Mask

I’m a massive fan of the Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm and know just how good moringa is for the skin.  Moringa Renewal Treatment Mask is a new product to the Emma Hardie line-up and it’s really lovely.  It’s packed with moringa oleifera seed oil, hyaluronic acid and hyaluronic acid filling spheres, red algae, edelweiss extract and Resistem, a plant stem cell which improves the evenness of the complexion.  You can use the mask for 10-15 minutes for an instant pick up or leave it on overnight for an intense treatment.  It’s even better if you put it in the fridge at this time of the year, for a cooling facial treat.  Oh, and Nikki was right, you can still pick up your Emma Hardie products in M&S!

Emma Hardie Moring Renewal Treatment Mask 75ml £49.00 available from M&S

Touch in Sol Dark Out Long-Lasting Primer Base SPF30

Touch in Sol are one of the few Korean makeup brands available in the UK.  The three Dark Out colour corrector primer bases are lightweight and blend seamlessly into the skin. Erasing dark circles and concealing areas of redness.  Fresh Green Dark Out removes redness, Pure Peach combats dark spots and pigmentation, and Bright Purple brings brightness to sallow skin.  With the added bonus of SPF 30, these primers offer a lot for a very small amount of money.

Lixirskin Electrogel Cleanser

We always get excited when a YouTube subscriber asks us to review a product or range.  We were recently asked to take a look at Lixirskin Electrogel Cleanser.  This was a brand that we wanted to explore and where better to start than a cleanser.  And especially one that does it all!  Electrogel is negatively charged and attracts, captures and eliminates positively charged toxins, free radicals and pollution that sit on the skin.  The fragrance is divine and smells wonderful while you leave the cleanser to work, you’re left with super clean skin that isn’t in the least dry.  This is definitely one of the best cleansers I’ve used!

Lixirskin Electrogel Cleanser 100ml £25.00 available from Lixirskin and Cult Beauty

The Ordinary Buffet with Copper Peptides Update

Having tried the Buffet + Copper Peptides 1% for the past few weeks, Nikki has decided that the formulation doesn’t work for her as well as the NIOD CAIS.  Although it’s packed with great ingredients, Copper peptides, Matrixyl, Syn-ake peptide complex, and Argirelox, she has decided to stick with CAIS.

The Ordinary Buffet + Copper Peptides 30ml £28.90 available from Deciem
