We explore the range of botanical skincare created with the finest superfoods

Superfoods are the foods that we believe to have greater health benefits.  Nutrient-rich foods such as seeds, berries, fruits and vegetables.  We normally associate them with our diet rather than our skincare.  But, times are changing and now bodhi & birch are harnessing the goodness of superfoods in their latest range of products.

Bodhi & Birch founder, Elijah Choo, is a walking encyclopaedia of superfoods and it’s not surprising as he’s spent the last three years perfecting the Superfoods Series.  A new range of five skincare products literally packed with organic superfood ingredients that sound good enough to eat, in fact, these products are quite likely to taste as good as they sound – I wouldn’t recommend it but, once you have smelt them you’ll understand.

Bodhi & Birch Superfoods Series – 5 highly effective skincare products

Elijah’s passion for sourcing the finest ingredients from around the world has been obvious in the brand’s bath and body range. He calls upon nature and the healing power of plants to bring a sense of calm and wellbeing to the mind and body.  As a departure from other bodhi & birch ranges, which include essential oils, the Superfood Series do not contain essential oils, they rely solely on the natural ingredients for their fragrance.

What makes the Superfoods Series especially interesting, is that all the products have been formulated to work alone or in unison.  You can adapt them to work with your particular skin concerns, and to create an extensive skincare wardrobe, all from just five key products.

Both Nikki and I were lucky enough to be part of an extensive trial that Elijah carried out before the launch of the Superfoods Series.  He believes in testing on humans and never on animals.  While testing the products we both had firm favourites and interestingly they weren’t exactly the same, which demonstrates that what works for one doesn’t always work for another.

bodhi & birch Avo Bao Cleansing Balm

Avo Bao Cleansing Balm

Open the jar and I challenge you not to smile at the colour.  The Balm is a delicate shade of green and gently dissolves makeup and the toughest SPF sunscreens.  Packed with avocado, baobab, hemp, plum kernel, green coffee and spirulina, Avo Bao Cleansing Balm helps to nourish the skin at the first stage of your skincare routine.  Expect brighter skin and protection from free radical damage.  Apply, inhale, and see the day wiped away.  You can also use Avo Bao Cleansing Balm as a skin nourishing balm or add Lemon Water Hydrosol Tonic to create a cleansing milk.

bodhi & birch Tomato Seed Cleansing Oil

Tomato Seed Cleansing Oil

A beautiful, naturally coloured, light cleansing fluid, Tomato Seed Cleansing Oil is packed with super-antioxidant ingredients.  The combination of tomato seed, plum kernel, rosehip, pomegranate and cranberry seed oils makes this cleanser a wonderful sensory experience, but it’s also a fantastic skin healer.  Expect fine lines and age spots to diminish and skin to be left deeply nourished and super soft.  Tomato Seed Cleansing Oil can also be used as a facial or body moisturiser or mixed with Avo Bao Cleansing Balm to create an emulsifying oil cleanser.  Use with a dark coloured face cloth as the natural ingredients may stain lighter colours.

bodhi & birch Lemon Water Hydrosol TonicLemon Water Hydrosol Tonic

One of my absolute favourites of the range! This deeply hydrating blend of lemon, neroli and bergamot hydrosols, hyaluronic acid, pea peptides and fruit enzymes, refresh and protect the skin at the same time.  It helps skin to remain hydrated and has a natural antibacterial, antimicrobial and antifungal function which helps to cleanse and fortify the skin.  When spritzed on during the day your skin will remain noticeably more hydrated and it works well as a setting spray on top of makeup.  You can also blend Lemon Water Hydrosol Tonic with Avo Bao Cleansing Balm to create a cleansing milk or with Renshen Root Exfoliant & Mask to create a gentle exfoliating cleanser.  There is a clear crystal sphere in each bottle to charge and vibrate the senses.  Just gently shake the bottle for the uplifting sound.

bodhi & birch Renshen Root Exfoliant & Mask

Renshen Root Exfoliant & Mask

I must admit that during the testing period Renshen Root Exfoliant and Mask wasn’t my favourite product.  I felt that I had moved on from granular exfoliants towards acids that did the same job, only gentler.  I stand corrected, because Renshen Root Exfoliant & Mask is the most versatile product of the range.  Whether you use it mixed with water or Lemon Water Hydrosol Tonic which makes it a gentle exfoliator, or combined with Avo Bao Cleansing Balm, Tomato Seed Cleansing Oil or Super 25 Botanical Serum as a treatment mask, Renshen Root Exfoliant & Mask has an outstanding effect on the skin.

Created using adaptogens, ginseng and astragalus, and wild yam, cat’s claw, montmorillonite, kaolin clays, raw cacao, and fruit powders, this exfoliant helps to heal skin while boosting collagen production and cellular regeneration.  Expect an increase in skin elasticity and better skin texture, and above all, expect much brighter looking healthy skin.  I personally still prefer to use this product as a mask rather than an exfoliator.

bodhi & birch Super25 Botanical Serum

Super25 Botanical Serum

I feel slightly guilty mentioning Super 25 Botanical Serum last, because in my opinion, it’s the hero product of the Series.  This supercharged serum has, as the name suggests, 25 super seed, fruit, nut and berry oils within its formulation.  I adore everything about this indulgent oil, from the glorious colour to the natural fragrance, to the effects it has on my skin.  While testing the Super25 Botanical Serum I had a facial that involved microdermabrasion.  It left some areas of my face sore and inflamed, they looked red and quite angry.  I used Super25 Botanical Serum overnight and the following day the patches were practically gone.  By the second day, the serum had completely healed my skin.  I was astounded at the speed Super25 Botanical Serum worked its magic.

As the seasons change, I drop a little Super25 Botanical Serum into my foundation, it keeps my skin glowing and well moisturised all day.  Add a spritz of Lemon Water Hydrosol Tonic and my makeup is set all day long.

The list of active ingredients in Super25 Botanical Serum is so long that I urge you to head over to the Bodhi & Birch website to read about them.  If your skin looks in anyway stressed, appears unhealthy or showing signs of ageing, Super25 Botanical Serum will bring it back to life.  I currently have a large bottle and a small one for travelling, I honestly don’t want to ever be without this serum.  It’s skin healing in a bottle.
