What a great question and I know blusher is a product a lot of ladies ask about.
First let's talk formula. As we age the skin can get a little drier and also lose its glow. So we need to bring back the healthy flush of youth.
I would recommend going for a gel or cream to powder formula as they tend to sit better on the skin. These formulas have really improved over the years and are not the tacky textures that they used to be.
I would recommend buffing these onto the apple of the cheek with a brush. My favourite is the Real Techniques Stippling Brush - great value too.
Regarding application keep the blush high up on the cheek bone and buff up towards the top off the ear.
So, onto choosing a shade. Many women just use a bronzer - this is not flattering as you want your cheeks to have a glow as if you've just been for a brisk walk in the park. Also I would recommend to steer clear of shimmer in your blush - this can be added later if desired - minimally though please! I always recommend a brighter blush than many ladies would choose themselves - once on the skin and buffed in it will give a gorgeous flush.
Finally, a great price alternative to these, are Bourjois Cream Blush - however I find the shades are not quite as good
I really feel a great blusher is worth the investment and the products above are super economical. A great blusher can make us look awake and brighter even on the dullest of days!!!
